Ruth Jahnke's Obituary
Ruth M. Jahnke, 94, of Ashtabula, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, George and Anne (nee Pinta) Burghardt and her husband Robert Eric Jahnke; Ruth is survived by daughters Patti (John) Luttrelle and Carol Jahnke; and has extended family in Northeast Ohio and the Denver, Colorado area.
Ruth was very involved with politics, history, and journalism. She served as the President of the Fairview Park Republican Party Club several times and worked for the Board of Elections. She attended Kent State University for journalism. She eventually went on to write for the Westlife News covering city council and school board meetings and wrote the weekly column, Fairview Footnotes.
Ruth enjoyed traveling, with some very fun times at Indian Lake, Ohio with her husband Bob and the girls, and up in Michigan with Bob’s family. She loved her RV and toured the entire U.S. with Patti and Carol, taking turns driving over 9,000 miles in one trip...and yes, she drove the RV very well with some scary moments at Mount Rainer! We won’t go into the trip to Washington D.C. in the RV! A most memorable trip was to Hawaii and England. She was quite knowledgable with English history. While in England, she and her daughters discovered the quaint English countryside, visited the beautiful Cotswolds and toured the castles of England with Windsor Castle being a favorite. Music and dancing, jitterbugging and tap were a big part of Ruth’s life! And as for the Cleveland Indians baseball team….she was their biggest fan not missing a game! She actually missed a trip inside a gold mine in Virginia City just to watch the playoffs!
Over the 45 years of living in Fairview Park and 18 years in Saybrook, Ruth was mom to a few very happy kitties who also led long lives!
Ruth’s memory will be filled with fun, laughter, joy, and love. She will be dearly missed.
A private committal will be held for Ruth’s family at Sunset Memorial Park.
