Vernon Q Shepherd's Obituary
Vernon Q. Shepherd, age 91, of Brook Park, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Born on December 26, 1934, in Burnsville, North Carolina. He spent four decades working for Conrail, where he was known for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. Vernon was a longtime member of Cleveland Baptist Church and found great comfort and fellowship within its community.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Della Ann, and by his children Vicki (Howard) Smith, Patrina (Calvin) Barker, Vernon (Sherri) Shepherd, and Russell (Sandra) Shepherd, all of whom brought him immense pride. He was a loving grandfather to Dawn, Jennifer, Robert, Jimmy, Crystal, Amanda, Crystal R, Michael, Matthew, Veronica, Brandon, Zachary, and Autumn, and he was blessed with 16 great‑grandchildren and 1 great‑great grandchild, each adding joy and meaning to his later years. One of eight siblings, Vernon, is also survived by his brother Roger Shepherd, who resides in Burnsville, maintaining the lifelong bond they shared.
Vernon will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the kindness he extended to everyone around him. He was close to many friends and neighbors, always ready with a warm smile or a helping hand. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the steady, faithful Christian life he lived.
The family will welcome friends on Thursday, January 15, for a visitation from 4 PM- 8 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. A service will be held on Friday, January 16 at 10 PM at the chapel with burial to follow.
